Londonderry Rural Fire Brigade
were alerted to a call of a Car Fire on The Northern Road,
Londonderry at 0751 hours on Wednesday 26 May 2004. Londonderry 1
with a crew of 5 responded at 0756 hours and arrived on scene at
0803 hours.
The Londonderry crew found the
front end of a Ford Telstar motor vehicle well involved in fire. A
line of 25mm hose reel and fog branch were quickly deployed by a
Breathing Apparatus crew to prevent the spread of fire0. As a fuel
line had ruptured, a growing flammable liquid fire being fed by the
contents of the vehicles fuel tank had developed underneath and
around the front of the car. A line of 38mm hose and an Angus
FB5X branch producing AFFF foam was then deployed to extinguish the
fire.
The quick and efficient response
of the Londonderry crew prevented fire from entering the passenger
area of the car, allowing the occupant to save personal items from
the vehicle after the fire was extinguished.
